Today, they are the symbol of the town of Stavelot. Every year, during the mid-Lent period, they even become the kings of the celebrations for a weekend, at the time of the famous Laetare. On the footsteps of Guillaume Apollinaire

pop-up Wilhelm de Kostrowitzky (.jpg)In the Summer of 1899, Wilhelm de Kostrowitzky, the future Guillaume Apollinaire, was staying in Stavelot. While his mother spent her days at the casino of Spa, the young man was discovering Stavelot and its region and … love in the person of Marie Dubois, for whom he would write his only poem in Walloon: “Mareye”, the original rough draft of which can be seen at the Guillaume Apollinaire Museum. We propose that you should follow close on the poet’s heels and take your turn to discover Stavelot, its history and its region.
